Training in the USA. November 2, Sterling Heights, Michigan

On November 2, 18 participants of the US Department of Commerce’s international training visited town Sterling Heights, a suburb of Detroit, Michigan with a population of 136,000 people. The town is famous for the production of cars of the concern Fiat-Chrysler.

Thanks to the powerful production and engineering development, the city takes the third place in the US in terms of the number of jobs per unit of population. It is equal to 5.0. The international delegation from 7 countries, which are participants of the training, was introduced to its’ activities:

  1. business incubator «Velocity» (unique development of Smart Zone-smart zones based on high technologies),
  2. the city government (their method of the development of the MFG Day the Day of Manufacturer is very interesting, when more and more schoolchildren and students are invited to visit the enterprises of the city in order to motivate them to find technical and working specialties)
  3. a large college for 13,000 students Macomb Community College (its experience of adjusting and finalizing the curriculum of the college during 2-3 days to the changing standards and wishes of local producers, where these students will work is unique)
  4. SBDC Small Business Development Center and other city organizations.

Unifying and harmonious work of various institutions for the benefit of the city’s economic and social development, with an emphasis on mutual concessions and compromises for the sake of society, and therefore themselves is amazed!

Then the delegation met with the leadership of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation MEDC. Director Tracie Tillinger shared her experience of implementing the campaign «Clean Michigan» and promotion of the 5 Great Lakes of America. A senior development manager Drew Coleman said that in its KPI corporation introduced indicators «funnel of implemented cooperation» with the companies involved. The CEO of the socially responsible enterprise «Techno-Image», Coordinator of the working team for the development of social entrepreneurship and social responsibility of business in the Dnepropetrovsk region Oleg Velichko spoke with his American colleagues about the possibility of using their economic strategy in the development of the Dnepropetrovsk region.
